most likely it would depend on the personality of the master. if nice,kind & well mannered he would call a slave by name if ill tempered & in a bad mood anything from york you**** to just leave the given name off & go with **** only. i'm sure with masters like lewis & clark york got kindness as well as beatings. & at the end of the expedition did he not get his freedom?
